Scouting and specifics...

Over the past few days since my feedback session on Monday I have been looking into scouting more models for Mae's Management. I have found that Modelmayhem.com is very useful for finding models however it seems that the best ones I have found live in London and aren't willing to travel even when offered expenses covered. I will still persue the site though as there are a handful of girls scouted in and around Southampton which I have contacted. I am still waiting on replies and will keep scouting for more models.

Today I conducted my first shoot for Mae's Management. I felt like it was the birth of my agency! The shoot was based around other high fashion modelling agencies shot style. The inspirations were shown in my previous blog post to this also. The model used was Alexa Baigent and it was styled very simply. The photographer used for the shoot was a friend of mine Ashleigh Bell. I love working with Ashleigh as we both have ideas which then bounce off each other whilst on set.

I took a couple of shots on my phone of Alexa while Ashleigh was shooting to put as test shots in my journal:

The shoot ended up consisting of four looks. The first one consisted of black skinny jeans for styling and a cropped jumper. The makeup was natural with strong contouring and thick eye liner. I am yet to edit the photos but will post a few shots into my blog.

Here is a quick behind the scenes shot from the shoot:

Look 1

The concept behind this shoot was to achieve some naturally beautiful but still high fashion images that will show Alexa's face and figure off in the best possible way. Each model needs to have the right look and be shot well in order to appeal to clients.

Look 2

Look 3- this was my favourite look and I feel I will use these images as the main content of Alexa's feature.

The third look was inspired by a model profile on Premier Model Management's site. The model is named Irina Shar.

Look 4

I absolutely love this shot! I'm really happy with the composition and the hair and red lips work well together. I feel it is a strong image.

I am really pleased with the shots from today's shoot. It has helped me to start thinking further into layouts for the magazine as I now feel like I'm finally getting started with everything.
Also, the above shots aren't edited yet so I need to edit them and pick the ones best suited to the agency.

For future shoots I will collaborate with more stylists and photographers to further the quality of my work. Today I have been approached by two other students asking me to collaborate with them for their Final major projects as they know I have scouted a number of models for my project and they want to use them in their own shoots. This is going to be a really good opportunity for me because if others want to use my models for their shoots then Mae's Management is already beginning to fulfill its purpose of assigning models to clients and that is just by word of mouth around the university. This gives me even more confidence in my magazine as it will promote the models even further!

Final major, first day, First feedback

Yesterday was the first official day back at uni and I attended my Final major project lesson where we were given an introduction  to the project and then split between tutors into small groups. My chosen tutor is Clementine O'hara. I was really happy about this as she has a strong back ground in fashion and can provide alot of helpful feedback for my proposed idea.

The tips Clementine gave me to consider for my magazine are the following:

 - I need to start planning layouts for the magazine on InDesign in order to start understanding where my images will be placed when shot.

- I need to make sure I scout a good range of quality models to keep the magazine within the high fashion standard. Different races etc. All models must be perfect for the agency and must meet specific criteria.
-From this feedback I have started to look at web sources such as modelmayhem.com in order to contact potential strong models for the agency.

- I need to focus on the Agency's (Brand's) ethos. State what the agency is about, it's beleifs and morals within the fashion industry and it's attitude towards it's models and clients.

-I also need to start looking at possible logos and fonts for the magazine to represent Mae's Management in a professional manner.

For next week's session I will bring in more examples of magazines and layouts. I will also have completed the criteria stated earlier in this entry.

This evening I have been planning a shoot for thursday 24th Jan. the model will be Alexa Baigent,a model chosen for the agency. This will be the first shoot towards the magazine. Below are two mood boards I created in preparation for the shoot for inspiration:

The first is a head shot style board and the second, possible pose choices for the model.

The model scouted and chosen for this particular shoot is Alexa Baigent.

I am really excited to work with Alexa as the style concept of the shoot suits her perfectly. The photographer I will be collaborating with for the shoot also is Ashleigh Bell. All three of us seem to be on the same wave length with what images need to be produced so I'm hoping the shoot will be a very successful start to 'Mae' Magazine.
